I’ve loved history as long as I can remember. When I was 15 I read William Manchester’s The Death of a President and was captivated by the way a good historian, and good writer, can capture a moment that made you feel you were there. I wanted to do that for a living. It’s what motivated me to go to graduate school, where I spent some of the happiest years of my life. My teaching career has helped me stay connected to the academy and has given me time to get some research and writing done.
Check out some of the things I’ve written. My interests are wide-ranging, as are the projects I’ve taken on. In each of them, the discoveries along the way were the happiest part.
